Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa's robotics team is competing at the Granite City Regional on Friday and Saturday, April 4 and 5 in St. Cloud. The site is the River's Edge Convention Center by the Mississippi River. Altogether, this region tournament features 48 teams.
The 2025 F.I.R.S.T. robotics competition is called Reefscape, and it is based on the principle idea of utilizing automated robots to clean and improve coral reef areas of our earth's oceans. In B-B-E's action on Friday morning, Resistance Robotics was in a Red Alliance in their first qualification match. Their alliance lost a tough one by a 70-66 score; the other teams included were from Hutchinson and Devils Lake, ND.
In their second qualification match, B-B-E was in a Blue Alliance with New London-Spicer and Detroit Lakes. This allianc won by a 128-54 score.
B-B-E's third qualification match is set to begin at about 11:18 a.m. on Friday.
Update after B-B-E's third qualification match on Friday: B-B-E's Blue Alliance lost by a 182-102 score. The Blue Alliance trailed 34-16 after the 15-second autonomous period, but early in the tele-op (manual driving) period, the Red Alliance quickly pushed their lead past 30 points. The Red Alliance featured powerhouse teams from Jamestown, ND and Rocori in Cold Spring. The Rocori team is fresh off of a Seven Rivers Regional championship at La Crosse, WI on March 19-22.
This sets B-B-E's record to 1-2 overall as they fall to 24th place. Their fourth qualification match of Friday is set for approximately 1:40 p.m. The remaining matches of Friday are set for 3:16 p.m., 4:12 p.m. and 5:24 p.m.
Update after B-B-E's fourth qualification match on Friday: B-B-E's Blue Alliance lost a close battle by a 99-90 score. It was a tough one to swallow just as the day's opening match was with a four-point loss. In this fourth match, B-B-E's Blue Alliance included teams from Upsala and West Branch, IA. The winning Red Alliance in this match featured teams from West Central Area high school, Totino-Grace and Manitowoc, WI (a private Lutheran school who paired with a homeschool network of students from their community).
In B-B-E's match coming at 3:16 p.m. today, their Red Alliance includes teams from BOLD and also Manitowoc, WI. Their Blue Alliance opponents include Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, which is Coach Reed Adrian's former team that he founded in 2017. Also in the Blue Alliance will be the No. 1-ranked team so far in St. Cloud, a team from Warroad.
Update after B-B-E's fifth qualification match on Friday: this match was a major win! B-B-E's Red Alliance won by a wide margin of 103 to 46 to break their short losing skid. This moved them up to 29th place after they had fallen to 34th place.
Update after B-B-E's sixth qualification match on Friday: in their match that started at about 4:15 p.m., B-B-E's Red Alliance won a thriller by a score of 117 to 97. After the clock read all zeroes, the Red Alliance trailed 90 to 85. However, the final "hang" yielded 24 points in their favor to tip the match away from Blue Alliance. Their final match of Friday is set to begin at about 5:02 p.m., and B-B-E Resistance Robotics is currently in 22nd place. Stay tuned!
Update after the final action of Friday! This is awesome! In B-B-E's seventh qualification match of Friday, their Red Alliance earned another thrilling victory. It was incredible as they won by a final score of 92 to 74 for B-B-E's third straight win. They finished Friday with a 4-3 overall record at the Granite City Regional, and in the overall standings, they have finished the day in 17th place!
