The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Resistance Robotics team has finished their qualification matches at the Granite City Regional in St. Cloud. After 10 matches played, they hold a 5-5 record going into the playoff alliance selection. For Day II on Saturday at River's Edge Convention Center, B-B-E's alliances went 1-2. They are on the board in 21st place out of 48 teams at the end of qualification matches.
Match No. 1 on Saturday: B-B-E's Red Alliance won 134-80. The Red Alliance in this match included teams from Dassel-Cokato and Stephen-Argyle.
Match No. 2 on Saturday: B-B-E's Blue Alliance lost 106-89. The Blue Alliance in this match included teams from St. Francis and Hopkins (Eagle Ridge Academy).
Match No. 3 on Saturday: B-B-E's Blue Alliance lost 104-80. The Blue Alliance in this match included teams from Grand Forks, ND and Kenyon-Wanamingo.
The 2025 F.I.R.S.T. robotics competition is called Reefscape, and it is based on the principle idea of utilizing automated robots to clean and improve coral reef areas of our earth's oceans. Saturday update: out of the 48 teams at the Granite City Regional, a total of 24 teams will advance to the playoff rounds. Going into the playoff alliance selection process, B-B-E's team is in 21st place, which puts them in a good position to be selected by one of the top alliance teams. Once qualification matches are completed, the teams who are ranked No. 1 through No. 8 are provided an opportunity to select one team to their respective alliances or create their own alliance. The 8 alliances compete in a double-elimination format to determine the region finalists.
Update at 12:26 on Saturday: it came down to the wire, but B-B-E's team was not selected for a playoff alliance. They finished as the second-highest ranked team in the field that was not picked to move on.
Once the playoffs concluded, Alliance No. 1 emerged as the winners of the Granite City Regional. This alliance included teams from New London-Spicer, Rocori and Hopkins (Eagle Ridge Academy). In the final match, Alliance No. 1 defeated Alliance No. 3, which included teams from St. Michael-Albertville, Sauk Centre and Watertown-Mayer.
