The No. 7-ranked Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa football team maintained second place in the Mid-Northwest Gopher Gold District standings with a 54-7 win over Long Prairie-Grey Eagle last Friday, October 11. Parents Night was also held prior to kickoff in what was the last regular season home game.
The Jaguars built a 42-0 lead after the first quarter. At halftime, they led 48-0.
Big achievements: in the second quarter, Jack Lundberg surpassed 1,000 season rushing yards. Later in that same quarter, Luke Illies eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark for passing this season. Both are two valuable members of the 16 seniors on this year's roster.
On Wednesday, October 16, the Jaguars made the short trip into Swift County for a border battle with neighboring Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg. Win or lose, the Fighting Saints were all but a lock for the No. 4 seed in Section 5AA and unable to overcome Holdingford's position in the No. 3 ranking. In the Mid-Northwest Gopher Gold District standings, the best K-M-S could do was pull into a tie for fourth place with Browerville with a win. Nevertheless, K-M-S and the Jaguars did battle for 48 minutes of smash mouth football where neither team really had the upper hand until the closing minute. The Jaguars overcame a 3-0 deficit to bring home a 14-3 win and finish the regular season 7-1 overall. Note: the video attached to this web article features action from the first quarter in Murdock that night.
In the district standings, the Jaguars finished in second place alone behind Upsala/Swanville Area.
