The United States FEMA response to Hurricane Helena has brought tough times to many parts of rural North Carolina in the past week. One resident who found refuge in mountain foothills near Forest City, North Carolina spoke about how the stench of dead bodies is now part of the city of Asheville, North Carolina. Asheville is one hour from Forest City. In Forest City, they sustained high winds and some flooding, but the town of about 7,400 residents was not fully destroyed like other North Carolina cities were.
The major media has not reported that the current death toll has already surpassed 1,000 across North Carolina, Georgia and Florida. In some areas of the disaster zone, they are experiencing a shortage of body bags.
