OBITUARY: Margaret Torkelson

Margaret DeAnne Torkelson (nee Jackson), 84, of Grove Lake, MN, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 12, 2024 on Mother's Day.

Margaret was born on August 2, 1939 to Ralph and Vivetta (Nissen) Jackson in Storm Lake, IA. She attended school in Sedan and Glenwood before meeting Eldon Torkelson. They married on August 11, 1956.

Margaret and Eldon first lived in North Minneapolis and then Crystal before finally settling in Plymouth, where they raised four children.

She and Eldon went on many excursions with friends; cruises and even a trip to Norway. Her time was never idle but always filled with all the things that make life memorable.

From the cabin on Browns Lake to their current home in Grove Lake, many memories were made from fishing to family gatherings. There are many memories of Margaret's baking, playing cards, doing puzzles and making us all laugh all wrapped up in joyous holiday celebrations.

Spending time with family was always at the top of her list.

Margaret was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Jackson; mother, Vivette (Vi) Swenstad (Don); son, Harvey; daughter, Vicki, one great-grandson; brothers Dale (Lynn) Yost and Jim Jackson.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Eldon; sons, Ron (Lorene) of Annandale; Evan (Deb) of Fountain Hills, AZ; John (Delores) Jackson of Arizona and Ralph (Marlys) Yost of Monticello, MN. Plus seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, July 20 at noon at Trinity Lutheran Church of Grove Lake. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service.
