The Brooten city council met in regular session on Monday, December 11 and held the annual Truth in Taxation hearing before setting the 2024 budget and levy.
The 2024 levy amount was set at $442,433. This compares to $473,677 set a year ago for 2023. In December of 2021, the levy amount adopted for 2022 was $445,495.
The 2024 budget was set at $798,310. This compares to $728,531 set a year ago for 2023. In December of 2021, the budget total adopted was $687,591.
The city council also adopted a donation budget representing what is expected to be taken in for 2024; this was set at $70,000.
The 2024 Economic Development budget was set at $15,832.
The city's water budget was set at $125,000; the sewer budget was set at $194,000.
Bollig Engineering presented a project update on the Jenniges Meats expansion to the west. The city received a check of around $561,000 from Jenniges Meats for their portion of a pay request that totaled about $600,000.
The Brooten Fire Relief Association requested and was approved to increase the retirement payment amount by $100 per firefighter per year; this figure is now $1,150 per year.
