A battle of Top 10 teams played out in favor of the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa football team last Friday morning at the FargoDome for the Section 4A championship.
Once the game clock ticked to zero, the dream lived on in a big way. A marvelous achievement was earned just after noon that day when the No. 5-ranked Jaguars put the finishing touches on a 36-12 win against No. 9-ranked Upsala/Swanville Area.
The Jaguars built leads of 14-0 and 28-12 by halftime. The second half featured a high level of defense, but the Jaguars added a third-quarter touchdown with a 67-yard scoring drive.
"Our guys played hard," said head coach Chris Moscho at the FargoDome following the post-game handshakes. "I think our stamina, and our linemen subbing in and out, was a big part of it."
About his team's defense, Moscho said, "The defense today was huge. With that goal line stand in the second half, they did great when the Patriots had another chance to sneak one in the end zone."
Speaking about QB1, Moscho said, "Luke is phenomenal. He's a senior quarterback who we wish was a junior. It's that type of thing. He throws a beautiful pass. He trusts his receivers. The guys up front in the trenches give him time, and he trusts them too. Our running game today was on par as well."
Speaking to what lies ahead with the team's second state quarterfinal game in three seasons, Moscho said, "I think our guys are just loving this. They're loving every moment. They know that nothing's given to them. They earn everything. That's our mentality. Right now our guys are playing with a lot of confidence."
