For the second year, the R.D. Offutt Brooten farm team is inviting fellow neighbors and members of the community to an "all-you-can-dig party," at the upcoming Potato Field Days.
On Saturday and Sunday, September 30 and October 1, from sunrise till sunset, those interested can bring potato forks and buckets to an RDO field and dig to their heart's content.
Farm Manager Chris Strom said he is looking forward to the community dig after having such a positive reception during the inaugural event in 2022.
"Last year, I wasn't sure what to expect, but cars lined up in the field and it was busy all weekend long," Strom said. "We are excited to host the community again for this family-friendly event where people can dig their own potatoes to stock up for winter."
Strom said despite inconsistent rainfalls this season, the potato crop looks promising and the public dig should be fruitful.
"Our team has been carefully managing our fields to ensure just enough moisture to sustain our crop," Strom said. "And we are using new tools to help us monitor moisture levels, which community members will be able to see when they visit."
