Three-hour trip north results in a victory
The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguars football team won its season opener on Friday, September 1 at Bagley high school. Facing an outmatched Flyers team that went 2-7 last year, the Jaguars used an even split of passing and running to win by a 46-14 score. At halftime, B-B-E led 34-0 after racking up a two-touchdown lead in the game's first six minutes.
For the game, the Jaguars racked up 351 yards of offense compared to 133 by the Flyers. Of their 133 yards, they gained over 60 yards on one play during their first touchdown play that broke up the shut out. Badger's Noah Nelson ran a 62-yard touchdown carry with 30 seconds left in the third quarter to cap a five-play, 84-yard drive. The two-point conversion was stopped to make the score 46-6 at that point.
Next: the Jaguars travel to West Central Area high school in Barrett for Week 2 on Friday, September 8 when they'll face a very talented and undefeated Knights team. Kickoff at Knights stadium is at 7 p.m.
