A wild, rollercoaster game played out in Dassel on Saturday, August 20 with temperatures topping 90 degrees as the Elrosa Saints battled the Hadley Buttermakers while earning a 4-3, walk-off, come-from-behind win in the opening round of the Class C state amateur baseball tournament.
Trailing 1-0 after the third inning, the Saints plated two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Hadley's hopes were lifted with a two-RBI home run in the fifth. The 3-2 lead stood until the eighth, when Derek Wiener's RBI-single tied the game.
In the ninth on two outs, Jackson Peter's RBI-single sailed over the third baseman's reach to score Andrew Weller and hand the Saints the dramatic win.
For the second year in a row, the Saints will play in the Round of 32 at state.
Elrosa now faces the Region 9C champion Minneota Mudhens on Saturday (August 26) at 4:30 p.m. in Litchfield.
