The No. 5-ranked Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa wrestling team has advanced to the Class 1A state tournament for the third straight year after claiming their third straight Section 5A title.
The Jaguars, seeded No. 3, defeated higher-seeded Canby and Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg in the section semifinals on Saturday, February 18 at Benson high school. They take a 20-5 record into the state tournament, which opens with the 9 a.m. quarterfinals round on Thursday, March 2 at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. They are seeded No. 3 in the field behind Jackson County Central and Caledonia/Houston.
In the section quarterfinals on February 16 in Belgrade, the Jaguars defeated Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 57-24. In the video below, sophomore Louie Tensen can be seen earning a pin at 126 pounds.
