R.D. Offutt Brooten Farm to host Potato Field Days Sept. 17-18

Come one, come all for free potatoes from R.D. Offutt Farms!

On September 17 and 18, the R.D. Offutt Brooten farm team is inviting fellow neighbors and members of the community to an "all-you-can-dig party," at the upcoming Potato Field Days. From sunrise till sunset, those interested can bring potato forks and buckets to an RDO field and dig to their heart's content.

Farm Manager Chris Strom said he is looking forward to a new way to engage with the community, noting he often receives calls in the fall about potato donations.

"I know that churches and other groups often need potatoes for community meals, events and serving people in need," Strom said. "We are pleased to be able to open one of our fields to the public for a fun event that will support food security in our community."

Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Cub Scout Pack 667 will be at the field from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17 to assist in digging potatoes for those who may need assistance.

Together with its partners, R.D. Offutt Farms operates 10 farms in Minnesota. RDO's Park Rapids, Perham, Wadena and Little Falls farms have offered Potato Field Days in year's past; this is the first time the Brooten farm team is hosting the event.

Participants are encouraged to snap a picture and tag R.D. Offutt Farms on Instagram, #RDOpotatofielddays. Please dig at your own risk.
