Annual county fair is off and running in Glenwood; schedule highlights below
The Pope County Fair (it's FREE) opened this week on Wednesday, August 3 in Glenwood. The full schedule was published in the July 28 and August 4 issues of the Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper. A video from the truck and tractor pull at the fair in 2021 is shown below.
The Free Stage continues with daily free family entertainment. Also, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Pope County Fair, the 4-H building, the exhibit and vendor buildings and kids games and activities all open at noon. The kids games and activities run from 12 to 9 p.m. all three of those days.
Thursday, August 4: the 4-H buildings are open from noon to 9 p.m., and the kids games and activities also run from noon to 9 p.m. on Thursday. The 4-H Sheep Show at Jack Morris Arena starts at 2 p.m., and the beer garden opens at 3 p.m. The entertainment on Thursday night is the Birch Coulee Ranch Rodeo in the grandstand, and that begins at 6:30 p.m.
Friday, August 5: Friday is Kids Day at the Pope County Fair! The fun begins bright and early at 8 a.m. with the 4-H Llama and Alpaca show, and a tractor show runs from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. The senior craft shack opens at 9 a.m. The 4-H Dairy Show at Jack Morris Arena starts at 10 a.m. The 4-H food stand will run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The 4-H Showcase event starts at 12:30 p.m. Back by popular demand: Clueless, the balloon twister, will be at the fair's central headquarters building on the hill from 1 to 4 p.m. Ashby Ax Throwing will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. The 4-H open beef show at Jack Morris Arena starts at 4 p.m. The kids pedal pull contest starts at 5 p.m. on the fairway. Friday night entertainment features Family Fun Night in the grandstand. The Cihlar family will perform on the free stage from 7 to 9 p.m.
Saturday, August 6: To start off Saturday, the tractor show runs from 8 to 9 a.m. The 4-H Livestock Blue Ribbon auction is at 9 a.m. at the 4-H arena. The senior craft shack opens at 9 a.m., and the 4-H food stand opens at 10:30 a.m. and runs until 10 p.m. A baking contest takes place at 11 a.m. on the free stage. The beer garden opens at 11 a.m. Ashby Ax Throwing will go from 1 to 6 p.m. on the fairway. The 4-H All-Around Showmanship at the 4-H arena starts at 1 p.m. The truck and tractor pull starts at 3 p.m. at the grandstand. The State Fair talent contest is at 4:30 p.m. on the free stage. The Glacial Ridge Cattlemen's steak feed is at 4:30 p.m. at the Little Red Barn - come hungry!
Sunday, August 7: What can be dubbed the "grand finale" event to conclude the Pope County Fair will be the demolition derby on Sunday. This always-popular event starts at 1 p.m.
