Bonanza Valley Days is coming! July 7, 8, 9 and 10 (VIDEO)

First, another gentle reminder to remember that the lengthy list of Bonanza Valley Days activities are made possible by the overwhelming support of the local business community. We can't say it enough: without that generous support, BVD as everyone knows it would not be possible. The BVD posters that have gone up across the area include business sponsors, and you can see the poster yourself on page 7 this week and see everything that's coming.

What follows in this article is a light summary of events that also adds explanation and other necessary information that can't fit on the poster.

BVD technically kicks off on July 5!

The BVD Medallion Hunt kicks off on Tuesday, July 5 due to the 4th of July holiday. The clues will be posted at city hall in downtown Brooten late Monday night on the 4th!

A huge draw to town will be the city-wide garage sales taking place Thursday, Friday and Saturday. You can see the full listing of garage sales on page four this week.

While BVD technically starts with the Medallion Hunt on Tuesday, it officially kicks off on Thursday night, July 7, with the non-denominational Church Service in the Park event starting at 7 p.m. in the city park. Bring your own lawn chairs! The service will be led by Father Jeremy Theis from t

The B-B-E basketball program will host the 3-on-3 youth and adult tournament on and Saturday. This is split into three separate divisions. To see those details, turn to page 9. The high school and adult divisions run on Friday night, while the middle school division runs on Saturday. Updates have also been posted to the Jaguars Sports extended coverage blog: bbejaguars.blogspot.com.

The youth Art in the Park event with tye-dye t-shirt making will be on Friday at the city park starting at 1 p.m. The organizers welcome an RSVP for your child or children, but that is not necessary. This will help order the correct quantity of supplies. You are welcome to bring your own shirt as well. To RSVP, call the newspaper office at 320-346-2400 before Tuesday, July 5.

Saturday, July 9

The B-B-E wrestling club will again take up the BVD Walk/Run event, and that will be staged near St. Donatus Church on the corner of Roe Street and Eastern Avenue. Register before 8:30 a.m. that day.

The BVD Men's slowpitch tournament starts at 9 a.m. at the city park, and the sand volleyball tournament also starts at that time at the city park.

The Gary Fauskee Scholarship Cup tournament starts at 9 a.m. at Prairie View Community Golf Course as a nine-hole tournament. This was first held in 2012 in honor of the dearly loved and deeply missed Gary Fauskee, a 1976 Brooten high school graduate who was a rare four-sport Buccaneer athlete.

Multiple popular events are back once again for Saturday, including the caricatures drawing on main street, the Game Truck U.S.A. (also downtown) and the two large water slides for kids of all ages (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.)

NEW for BVD in 2022 is an ax throwing booth, which will be set up on main street and available for all ages. This runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Also new this year! MVTV Wireless of Granite Falls will host Hula Hooping on main street from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The BVD Kiddie Parade is at 10 a.m., and the parade will once again be staged near Trinity Lutheran on Hatton Street and move east towards the Brooten Pavilion.

Sunday, July 10

Once again everyone is invited on Sunday morning to take in the Grandpa's Belgian waffle breakfast with B-B-E Scouts BSA Troop No. 667 at the city park, running from 8 a.m. to noon.

The grand parade is at 1:30 p.m. and is followed by the Bonanza Valley State Bank ice cream social at the Pavilion.
