Norway Lake Lutheran Historical Society celebrates 150th anniversary of Pastor Markhus' installation
The Norway Lake Lutheran Historical Association invites everyone to attend their 20th annual Log Cabin Church celebration. This year it is scheduled on Sunday, August 18 starting with a 10:30 a.m. worship service in the log cabin church with Pastor Marcus Felde presiding.
Pastor Felde is the great-great nephew of Pastor Lars Markhus, whose service to the Norway Lake area will also be honored on August 18 with a 150th anniversary celebration of his pastoral Installation at the Norway Lake settlement. He served in the Norway Lake community from his installation on October 17, 1869 until he passed away on December 19, 1885.
Following worship on the 18th, a catered dinner will be served at First Lutheran church of Norway Lake. At 1:30 p.m., an afternoon program will be held at the log cabin church. Lefse and coffee served at 3:30 p.m. will conclude the day.
A few fun facts: at the original log cabin church of the Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran church of America, Norway Lake community, Lutheran church members held 42 confirmations, 77 burials, 72 weddings and 125 church services at the church from 1868 to 1875. In 1875, a new church was built that stands today as East Norway Lake Lutheran church.
