Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa schools will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, January 29-30, 2019 due to the oncoming and dangerously cold weather that's heading towards the Bonanza Valley area. The day care will be open from 6:45 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. each day.
Further weather-related announcements are forthcoming. By the end of the week, the school will announce make-up dates.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Chanhassen, a windchill warning will begin Tuesday and continue through Thursday morning with windchill temperatures ranging from 35 below to 65 below. Beginning around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, the wind chill will hover between 50 and 55 degrees below zero. The predicted high temperature on Wednesday is 19 below zero. During the day time hours on Wednesday, the wind chill is predicted to climb no higher than around 40 degrees below zero. On Wednesday night into Thursday, the air temperature is predicted to drop to 35 below zero with the wind chill hitting 60 below zero or worse.
In a press release, the NWS stated, "This is a life-threatening situation for those spending any prolonged period outdoors without proper clothing. The dangerously cold windchills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as five minutes."

*Update 16:53 on Wednesday, January 29: the Jaguar Kids Connection day care at B-B-E schools will be closed on Wednesday, January 30 due to the record cold temperatures that are forthcoming.
