Sinclair Lewis Days underway in Sauk Centre

The 47th annual Sinclair Lewis Days celebration kicked off in Sauk Centre on Wednesday night, July 12, with Wacky Water Night at Sinclair Lewis Park. Turtle races and a kids' concert were other highlights for the night.

Events continue on Thursday with a pie and ice cream social at 2 p.m. at the Sauk Centre senior center. The Miss Sauk Centre Pageant is at 7 p.m. at the high school auditorium. Here's what else is coming this weekend:

Friday, July 14: Yoga in the Park with Yoga MamaZ at Sinclair Lewis Park at 7 a.m. starts the Friday activities. The Little Red School House open house is 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There's a medallion scavenger hunt at 3 p.m. at the Sauk Centre Chamber Office (308 Oak Street South). Two music entertainers bring music to Sinclair Lewis Park at 7 p.m., the Red Letter Band and DJ Pete. The American Legion Post 67 beer garden opens at 7 p.m., with proceeds to the chamber of commerce. A live summer cash raffle is in the Sinclair Lewis Park bandshell at 8 p.m. A pontoon and boat parade will be held on Sauk Lake at 9 p.m. (registration through Minnow at 320-491-0367). A musical fireworks show is at dusk at the Sinclair Lewis Park.

Saturday, July 15: The Kids one-mile Fun Run and Sinclair Lewis 5K begins at Sinclair Lewis Park to start off the Saturday activities in Sauk Centre, which check-in at 7 a.m. and the race beginning at 8 a.m. (chip-timed race). Downtown Crazy Days, hosted by the downtown business community, starts at 8 a.m., and the Craft Fair and Flea Market begins at 9 a.m. at Sinclair Lewis Park. At 10 a.m., American Legion Post 67 Bingo with beer garden starts, supporting the chamber of commerce. The Little Red School House is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. A car show at O'Reilly Auto Parts starts at noon, with check-in beginning at 10 a.m. The Family Fun Day with games, inflatables and pony rides starts at 11 a.m. at Sinclair Lewis Park. Sauk Centre's Taekwondo group presents "Spar Wars" at Sinclair Lewis Park at 11 a.m. Later in the evening, the Sinclair Lewis Days grand parade with a new parade route is at 7 p.m. Following the parade, a pie and ice cream social is at First Lutheran Church. The activities wrap up with the street dance in downtown Sauk Centre featuring the Megan Elizabeth Band and Dana and the Bottlerockets starting at 9 p.m.
