Jaguars advance 14 athletes to sections

Terrific night at Sub-Section 6A-21 meet

Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa's 29 track and field athletes had some outstanding performances up and down the lineup at the Sub-Section 6A-21 meet held at the University of Minnesota-Morris on Thursday, May 26.

Overall, 14 of the 29 team members punched tickets to the Section 6A meet by placing fifth or better in individual events or by being part of first- or second-place relay squads.

Moving on to the Section 6A meet are the boys' 4x800 and 4x100 relay teams. Also moving on in individual events are Sidney Shacter, Kyle Felling, Brooke Kaiser, Kayle Benesh, Matthew Kollman, Isaac Vliem, Colby Schramel, Tori Reed, Jen Boyle and Ebba Reimers.

The boys' 4x800 relay team includes Nick Steinhofer, Logan Schwinghammer, Parker Schwinghammer and Colby Schramel. They took first place with a time of 8:50.28 (over 10 seconds better than their seed time!)

The boys' 4x100 relay team includes Kyle Felling, Sidney Shacter, Matthew Kollman and Taylor Knight. They took second with a time of 47.41 seconds.

Dozens of noteworthy items are worth mentioning, but one of the biggest was seeing Colby Schramel earn a section trip in the Pole Vault by adding over a foot to his best jump to date this season. He entered subsections with a seed height of eight feet flat, and at subsections he cleared nine feet, six inches and came oh-so-close to clearing 10 feet flat.

"We are absolutely impressed with what we accomplished tonight. Once looking at the meet program and seeing the seeds, we felt we could do well and get a good number through to the section meet," said head coach Tina Bauleke, who is in her first year at B-B-E schools as a fourth-grade teacher and coach. Bauleke is a Morris Area graduate and coached the Jaguars on her former home course.

The Section 6A meet begins at 10:30 a.m. (field events) on the campus of Minnesota State University-Moorhead at Nemzek Field. The running events begin at 11 a.m. The Bonanza Valley Voice is tentatively scheduled to attend and cover the meet.

NOTE: Section 6A includes three sub-sections. One of the other two held their competition at Long Prairie-Grey Eagle high school on Thursday night. Sauk Centre and Melrose Area were there. The third sub-section is holding their meet on Friday. It is possible that more Jaguar athletes could advance to sections based on "Wild Card" berths where their individual time or relay time or field event result ranks them high enough to advance.
