Glacial Ridge Ambulance's 9th Annual Holiday Toy Drive turned out to be the most successful one ever. Our generous community gave new toys, clothes and more including Minnewaska Laker stocking hats, jewelry, and cologne to brighten Christmas morning for area children and teens. The giving doesn't stop there.
When ambulance crews were spending monetary donations to fulfill kids' wish lists, local stores contributed by giving discounts or additional gifts. Collecting toys and shopping for kids who are less fortunate is very rewarding and humbling for everyone involved.
Approximately 400 children and teens from 165 families had a nicer Christmas this year because of every person, business, and organization that gave so generously. All toys, clothing and items collected were distributed to area families in need through Armful of Love in Pope County, Glacial Hills Elementary School in Starbuck, and the BBE School District.
Jared Swanson, EMT with Glacial Ridge Ambulance said, "Nine years ago when the ambulance service was changing from volunteer to full-time staff, we wanted to be able to give back to the community even more. We all enjoy the winter holidays so it just made sense to start a toy drive." He added, "It grew to what it is today because of the amazing generosity of our great communities."
The Glacial Ridge Ambulance crews would like to thank everyone for sharing the joy this holiday season with area families.
