    Randy Olson|Feb 25, 2016

For the 13th time in the program's history, the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa boys' basketball team will play for a subsection championship after they defeated third-seeded Hancock 58-49 on Saturday, Feb. 25 at the University of Minnesota-Morris. The Owls, champions of the Pheasant Conference, went 0-2 with two close losses to the Jaguars this season and finish 17-7 overall. The Jaguars take a 15-12 record into the Sub-Section 6A-South championship against a formidable opponent: ninth-ranked Battle...

  • Another Jaguar joins 1,000-point club

    Randy Olson|Feb 11, 2016

Since her eighth grade season, Hailey Braegelman has been a force on the basketball court for the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguars. Now a junior, Braegelman has done something few high school athletes can in their careers: join the 1,000-point club. Braegelman entered the home game against Maple Lake with 995 career points. She scored two field goals early in the first half, and at the 11-minute mark she hit a 10-footer in the lane against traffic to surpass the 1,000-point mark. The game was...

  • Boys' basketball wins in five OT vs. HLWW!

    Randy Olson|Feb 4, 2016

While games going into three overtimes are generally unheard of, games ending in five overtimes are even more rare. The B-B-E Jaguars boys' basketball team can say they've been a part of a five-overtime game, though, and better yet they can say they've won such a contest. Last Thursday at Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted, the Jaguars played in just the eighth five-O.T. game in the history of the state of Minnesota. Clearly not a game for the faint of heart, the Jaguars managed to put the Lakers away...

  • Girls' basketball Jaguars win OT thriller

    Randy Olson|Jan 21, 2016

In a battle for second place in the Central Minnesota Conference, with both teams trying to stay in contention for first place, the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa girls' basketball team had their hands full on Thursday, January 14. Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted, while just 4-9 overall, sat in a tie with the Jaguars at 3-1 in the CMC and brought a hot three-point shooting game to town for Parents Night. A back-and-forth affair played out, but the Jaguars ultimately prevailed by a 73-71 score in overtime....

  • Jaguar wrestlers 5th at home invite

    Randy Olson|Jan 7, 2016

Led by championship efforts by Canon Swanson (106 pounds), Adam Jaeger (138) and Ben Thompson (195), the 11th-ranked Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguars wrestling team took fifth place at their home invitational on Saturday. While Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg ran away with the title with 183 team points, a bottleneck occurred between second and fifth place. With 119.5 points, the Jaguars missed third place by just five team points. What hurt them the most was only having three wrestlers getting into...

  • Undefeated no more

    Randy Olson|Dec 24, 2015

Poor free throw shooting spelled doom for the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa girls' basketball team as their undefeated start to the season came to and end in a 56-50 loss at Minnewaska Area on Tuesday last week. Last week Thursday the Jaguars beat Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City in Grove City by a score of 66-47 to get their eighth win of the season. With all teams having two games under their belts in conference play, the Jaguars sit in a three-way tie for first place at 2-0 with Kimball Area and...

  • Girls' basketball wins Case IH tournament

    Randy Olson|Dec 10, 2015

The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguars girls' basketball team has started the season 4-0 for the first time since the 1996-1997 season. After picking up two wins in Benson to claim the championship of the Case IH tournament last weekend, the Jaguars pummelled visiting Upsala on Tuesday this week 71-37 for their fourth win. Making the initial undefeated streak even more impressive is the fact that all 14 players on the varsity roster saw action in all four blowout wins. In Benson, the Jaguars...

  • Boys' basketball edges HL-W-W

    Randy Olson|Dec 10, 2015

After winning just three games all season in the Central Minnesota Conference last year, the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa boys' basketball team is off to a 3-0 start in the league after winning a thriller by a 61-59 score over visiting Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted on December 11. The 3-0 mark in the CMC has B-B-E sitting in a first-place tie with Eden Valley-Watkins. In second place in a tie are Pierz and Maple Lake. The Jaguars (5-1 overall) had an early 10-7 lead with 15:20 left in the first half...

  • Jaguar wrestlers win triangular

    Randy Olson|Dec 3, 2015

The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguars wrestling team got off to a great start to the 2015-16 dual meet campaign with two dominant wins over Kimball Area (43-27) and Paynesville Area (41-27) in a Central Minnesota Conference triangular on Thursday in Paynesville. It's the second year in a row that the Jaguars have beaten Paynesville but just the third time overall in school history. All three teams are members of Section 5A, so the wins were huge at this early point of the season for playoff...

  • Horror on Halloween: Jaguars volleyball season ends in semifinals

    Randy Olson|Nov 5, 2015

A shocking end crushed the hearts of Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa players and fans alike on Saturday night when the Browerville/Eagle Valley Tigers throttled the Jaguars in a 3-1 sub-section semifinal win at Long Prairie. After B-B-E won continuous sub-section semifinal matches in Class 2A from 2002 to 2006 and then in Class 1A from 2007 to 2013, they have now lost two straight in that stage of the playoffs and have gone 1-1 in the postseason two years in a row. The season's end came without warning,...

    Randy Olson|Oct 29, 2015

The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguars volleyball team came out on a mission to start the Sub-Section 5A-West playoffs and methodically took apart Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City in a 3-0 sweep on Thursday night. In front of a packed hometown crowd, with the B-B-E student section in a self-imposed "black out", the Jaguars jumped all over the Falcons while bolting to a 13-3 lead in game one. Head coach Kevin Weller knows that's exactly what's needed each and every night they can continue playing in the...

  • Volleyball team claims another 3-2 win

    Randy Olson|Oct 29, 2015

Undefeated conference champions has a nice ring to it. In the regular season finale last Thursday at Pierz, the Jaguars claimed a 3-2 win to take the CMC title alone for the ninth time in school history. The Jaguars also shared CMC titles with Pierz in 2002 and Maple Lake in 2006. In 1994, the Jaguars went 14-0 in the West Central South Conference before earning a co-championship in the WCCS in 1995 with New London-Spicer. Now it's on to the playoffs! The Jaguars are the number one seed in...

  • Football team's thrilling playoff win

    Randy Olson|Oct 29, 2015

It was not a game for the faint of heart. Trailing 19-7 in the third quarter, the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguars football team had their work cut out for themselves against a surging Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity team on October 14 in the Section 4A playoff opener. For most of the game to that point, with seven minutes on the clock, the Jaguars were hamstrung offensively. It continued to the next series, when they went three-and-out, miffed a punt and gave the Bulldogs the ball on the B-B-E...

  • Jaguars clinch share of volleyball conference title!

    Randy Olson, sports editor|Oct 15, 2015

For the first time since the 2012 season, the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa volleyball team is champions of the Central Minnesota Conference. While at this point they've clinched a share of the title, the Jaguars have eyes on winning it outright with a win next week at Pierz. On Tuesday this week, the Jaguars (6-0 in the conference) clinched a share of the CMC with a gutsy comeback 15-12 win in game five against Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted. It was their 17th win of the season and came on the heels of...
