The family of the late Gary Breitbach were gracious hosts to 16 teams at the 10th annual Gary Breitbach Memorial golf tournament, which supports the Gary Breitbach Memorial scholarship program for Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa school graduates. Over 350 attended Mass at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic church on Sunday to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the church's founding. John O. Bohmer, whose grandfather also named John Bohmer founded the first bank in Brooten back in 1894, celebrated his 95th birthday today in grand style with a large community gathering at the Bonanza Valley State Bank parking lot today (June 17). According to the bank's history, on one very cold February morning in 1894, John Bohmer started for Brooten with his horse and sleigh. A serious three-alarm fire claimed a barn in rural Brooten just before sunrise on Monday, June 6 at the Heidi Kinzler property. Responding to the 911 call were the Brooten, Belgrade and Elrosa fire departments. Eyewitnesses driving by say the flames from the fire shot high above the barn at one point. Allegra TeBrake, age 16, is an 11-year survivor of brain cancer. Allegra had a new surgical procedure done in January 2016 and the family is currently facing expenses for travel to various appointments. This year six teams competed to create the best chili in three categories. Each booth also competed for the best booth decoration and costumes with a St. Patrick's Day theme.
