A severe winter storm has turned into a full-blown blizzard on Friday, November 18 across central and west central Minnesota, blanketing the Bonanza Valley area with at least six to eight inches of wet, heavy snow. Back in January 2010, a meeting was held in Brooten about the need for a proper turn lane for truck access to the Brooten Industrial Park from Highway 55. The Brooten Senior Citizens group is collecting donations for Eagles Healing Nest of Sauk Centre, a veterans complex on the former Minnesota Correctional Facility. Eagles Healing Nest first opened in June 2012 and had one building and 22 available beds for homeless veterans. Today that figure has expanded to multiple buildings on the campus and 64 beds with over 300 veterans served in a typical month. Fire Safety week was recognized at Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa schools during the week of October 9-15. For Herman and Delores Kampsen, 70 years of marriage was achieved this past Saturday, September 24, with a gathering of children and grandchildren at the Elrosa farm where they raised 11 children from the late 1940s through the 1980s. A manhunt is underway in the Belgrade area after the driver involved in a two-car accident west of Belgrade fled on foot on the morning of Saturday, July 30. The accident took place at approximately 10:40 a.m. involving a mid-2000s model Chevrolet Equinox (gray color) and a mid-2000s model Chevrolet Impala (silver color).
