Bonanza Valley Days outdid itself as a small town celebration this past weekend in Brooten. Beyond a random hiccup here and there, the full four-day weekend of activities in Brooten drew visitors from near and far across central Minnesota. Downtown Brooten was nearly maxed out on Saturday, July 8, as over 80 cars and trucks descended on Main Street for the Bonanza Valley Days car and truck show. Jim and Tracy Fischer, owners of JF Auto Repair in Brooten, were key organizers for what has become one of the biggest draws for BVD in Brooten. A large variety of 2023 Bonanza Valley Days T-shirts are for sale on Thursday and Friday, July 6-7, at the newspaper office in downtown Brooten. The "Proud and Free 2023" shirts are sized in both youth and adult varieties in selections of gray, yellow and pink. The cost is $15 each. Friday night update to share from the publisher: the DeeJay Sounds street dance, sponsored by the Bonanza Valley Voice, is still ON! For the second year in a row, the LifeLink III helicopter is scheduled to visit Bonanza Valley Days. The second annual Prayer and Party church social, hosted by Parishes on the Prairie Catholic churches, was a huge hit in Elrosa on Sunday, June 25. Jennifer Murphey, age 57 of Brooten died unexpectedly Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at home. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 23 at 2:00 p.m. at Big Grove Lutheran Church in rural Brooten/Belgrade. Marcia's Bar and Grill in downtown Brooten recently held a very successful bean bag tournament that drew a nice stream of customers to town on Saturday, April 29.
