The Class of 2018 graduated at Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa on June 1 at the high school. The faculty address, given by math teacher and wrestling head coach Jack Mueller, included the following numbers. There are 51 graduates in the Class of 2018. Twenty-four of them are graduating with honors. Ten of the 51 are three-sport athletes. Fifty-one out of 51 say that math is their favorite subject. While the process still has a ways to go, the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa school board made a big step towards selecting a new superintendent at a special work session meeting on Tuesday, April 24. After a multi-hour long process with multiple interviews of four finalists for the top position at B-B-E, the school board voted to bring Patrick Walsh of Hutchinson back on Thursday for a final interview session. Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa's FFA chapter has 33 students participating and competing at the 89th annual state FFA convention on April 22, 23 and 24. The school's FFA chapter, which has almost 90 members overall, has students competing in a wide variety of events. Between March 21 and March 28, members of the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa senior high band and choir traveled to and performed at DisneyWorld in Florida. This trip is taken once every four years by the high school band and choirs. Seven members of the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa speech team earned high honors at the Central Minnesota Conference meet on March 22 at Pierz high school. The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Resistance robotics team had a strong showing in the Lake Superior regional competition on March 7 to March 10 in Duluth. Overall they took 28th place out of 62 teams as part of the Blue Alliance. Out of nine head-to-head matches, B-B-E Resistance went 5-4 to earn a total ranking points level of 13. Sixth graders Luke Dingmann, Kaden DeRoo, Odin Jensen, Ryan Jensen and Evan Fischer participated in the regional Math Masters Challenge at Hutchinson on March 1. They are coached by Miss Field and Mrs. Jaeger. A total of 115 students on 23 teams competed individually and as teams on eight sets of mathematical problems in this event.
