In this rare gem of a video, the official start of the Centennial celebration in Brooten began with a flag-raising ceremony in front of the former Brooten high school. This was held on Friday, July 18, 1986 at the flag pole west of the building. Former Mayor Kay Mohr gives a speech in this video. He just passed away on December 6, and a feature article is included in the December 15 issue of the Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper....
The community of Brooten was glowing on Saturday. Former teacher and mayor Kay Mohr would have been very, very proud. The day of Saturday, December 10 was crazy busy from start to finish in Brooten. On Saturday there were visits by Santa Claus in both Belgrade and Brooten, and The Grinch even made a stop at the Brooten Lanes for a period of time that was so remarkable the publisher wrote a column about it on page 8 of the December 15 issue of the Bonanza Valley Voice!
