The Brooten American Legion and Ladies Auxiliary hosted a Memorial Day program on May 30 at Memorial Park. Joining the public and participating in the program were members of the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa senior high band. The guest speaker was Pastor Ron Knutson. For the second year in a row, the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa girls' golf team fell just short of a trip to the Class 1A state golf meet. At Benson for the Section 5A state-qualifying finals on June 1, the Jaguars went toe-to-toe with Minneota for top honors. A total of 43 members out of the 47 graduating seniors of the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Class of 2016 participated in the annual ecumenical Baccalaureate service on Wednesday, May 25 at Big Grove Lutheran Church. Pastors from area churches gathered with the seniors to honor their faith and wish them well as they were about to graduate from high school just two nights later. Allegra TeBrake, age 16, is an 11-year survivor of brain cancer. Allegra had a new surgical procedure done in January 2016 and the family is currently facing expenses for travel to various appointments. While the LITT procedure does appear to be successful in its main intent, Allegra continues to struggle with mobility issues on the left side, as well as headaches and other issues as a result of brain trauma.
